ABOUT THE ARTIST:
After graduating from the University of South Australia in 2011 Alison Smiles received an Arts SA funded mentorship with Melbourne based ceramicist Vipoo Srivilasa. The following year she became an associate at the Jam Factory where she met the co-founders of studio and retail space 6 Hands Studio. In 2015 she travelled to Korea and spent 5 weeks participating in a mentorship and cultural exchange program, culminating in the exhibition “Beyond Limitations” shown at the Clayarch Museum in Gimhae.
Australian designer Caren Elliss studied a Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honors) at the University of South Australia, during which she had the opportunity to travel to Mexico on a design internship. In 2009 Caren joined the JamFactory Furniture Studio as an associate, which furthered her making skills and started her career as a furniture designer/maker.
